Bears' biggest winner in Week 17 loss vs. Seahawks
The Chicago Bears played in one of the least entertaining games the NFL has seen in the history of the league, losing to the Seattle Seahawks, 6-3, on Thursday Night Football. Neither team scored a touchdown and the Bears' losing streak moved to 10 games.
It has truly been an embarrassing season for the team that general manager Ryan Poles has put together. What started as a year with such promise has become a terrible time for everyone involved. After a game like that, it is hard to call any individual player a “winner of the game”. That is especially true for all of the players on offense. There were some plays that quarterback Caleb Williams made that showed his potential in the NFL, but even he would tell you it wasn’t his best.
With that said, the defense didn’t play half bad. They only allowed six points on two field goals. Holding the opposition to six points over a 60-minute football game should win it for you 100 percent of the time, but normality doesn’t apply to the Bears. The entire defense gets a nod as a “winner of the game” for giving the team a chance to win. If there weren’t bad penalties taking away touchdown passes for the offense, Chicago would have won the game and the defense is responsible for that.
There wasn’t an interception or anything, but they kept Seattle at bay. Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith only went 17-of-23 for 160 yards. No running back had more than 60 yards on the ground and no receiver had more than 50 yards through the air. A “bend don’t break” trend did go on in this game, which is where the field goals came in for Seattle. But not allowing them into the end zone a single time was impressive.
This group will have their work cut out for them next week though as they take on the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. We’ll see if they can put together one more strong performance to go into the offseason feeling good.
