Are the Bears benching Caleb Williams? The latest on Chicago's offense
As the losses pile up for the Chicago Bears, it feels as if significant changes are inevitable at this point in time. The Bears dropped their third straight game, losing 19-3 to the New England Patriots at Soldier Field, falling to a record of 4-5. It was a very winnable game for the Bears, who failed to score a touchdown for the second week in a row. With such little production, questions have arose surrounding the offensive staff and even quarterback Caleb Williams.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, appearing on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday, speculated the Bears could make changes on offense, including opting to bench Williams after his dreadful outing. Williams completed just 16-of-30 passes for 120 yards and was sacked nine times. "I would expect that there will be some sort of change in Chicago on the offensive side of the football," Schefter said. "Is that changing the playcaller? Is that changing the quarterback and benching Caleb Williams for Tyson Bagent? I think all of these things are being discussed in the building today."

Those are strong words from Schefter, and it was the first time benching Williams has been brought up by a prominent NFL insider in order to protect him from regressing even more than he already has. Is that something that is really under consideration, though? Bears head coach Matt Eberflus was asked point blank about benching Williams during his Monday press conference and was clear with his answer. "Caleb is our starter," Eberflus said. Though he mentioned changes are coming to the offensive side of the ball, the quarterback is not part of that equation.

Time will tell what changes Eberflus plans to make, but something has to be done. The offense is in disarray at the moment, and they cannot run the same operation next week against the Green Bay Packers. Hopefully, those changes result in improved play from Williams, who needs to get back on track in a hurry.
