Yahoo Sports Bears believe Caleb Williams has separated himself in QB class
The Chicago Bears are nearing a decision in their franchise-defining move at quarterback, where the expectation is they’ll use the first overall pick to select Caleb Williams and trade veteran Justin Fields.
General manager Ryan Poles has stressed the importance of potential quarterback prospects needing to blow him away before moving on from Fields. And it certainly sounds like Williams has done just that.
While North Carolina’s Drake Maye and LSU’s Jayden Daniels have garnered plenty of intrigue around the league, Williams appears to be the consensus No. 1 quarterback in this draft class.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Bears see Williams “as a unique talent that has separated himself from the rest of the quarterbacks.”
Since the beginning of the offseason, Poles has stressed the importance of the person as much as the player. Williams’ film speaks for itself, and many believe he can be a generational talent. But the Bears finally got an opportunity to meet with Williams at the NFL Scouting Combine, where he made a strong impression.
At this point, the belief is Chicago will draft a rookie quarterback. And all signs are pointing to that guy being Williams.
