Bears hiring Antwaan Randle El as assistant HC, WRs coach

New Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson is busy filling out his coaching staff, which will be just as important as the organization landing Johnson to lead the charge.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Bears are finalizing a deal to make former Detroit Lions wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El their new assistant head coach and receivers coach, which is a big get for Chicago.

After initial reports that the Bears were going to land Hank Fraley as their offensive coordinator, the Lions offensive line coach is staying in Detroit. But Johnson still managed to snag a Lions assistant coach and bring him to Chicago.

Randle El, who grew up in the Chicagoland area, played nine years as a wide receiver in the NFL, including most notably with the Pittsburgh Steelers (where he won a Super Bowl). He got his start in the coaching ranks as an offensive assistant coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2019-20). Randle El then joined Dan Campbell's coaching staff as Lions receivers coach (2021-24).

During the last four seasons, Randle El has worked with the likes of Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Tim Patrick and Kalif Raymond. Now, Randle El will get to work with a pair of studs in DJ Moore and Rome Odunze.

This will mark the second hire for Johnson after the Bears have agreed to terms with Al Harris for their pass game coordinator, according to DallasCowboys.com.
