What’s the latest with the Chicago Bears?

The Bears suffered their ninth consecutive loss, once again in the rough fashion, falling 34-17 to the Detroit Lions in Week 17. It's the third straight game where Chicago's defense allowed 30-plus points. But it was a strong showing from rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who got to show off for his potential next head coach -- Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

Bears vs. Lions: Studs and duds from tough Week 16 loss

After a rough start for the offense that included a pair of Rome Odunze fumbles, Williams and the offense finally caught fire in the second quarter. Despite operating behind an offensive line missing their starting left tackle and left guard -- who exited with injuries -- Williams was efficient for the final three quarters. He completed 26-of-40 passes for 334 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions with a 107.7 passer rating. Williams also led the Bears with 36 rushing yards on six carries.

Lions OC Ben Johnson ‘intrigued’ by Bears head coaching vacancy

According to Tom Pelissero, Johnson is "intrigued" by the Bears coaching job this year, which would link him with rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. With the Bears welcoming Detroit to Soldier Field on Sunday, Pelissero reports that Johnson is one of the hottest names in NFL coaching circles, and he's willing to listen to Chicago.

Caleb Williams joins rare company in Bears franchise history

No Bears rookie quarterback has put up numbers like Williams has, but it's been a long time since any Bears passer has reached these totals. The last Bears quarterback to throw for 3,000 yards in a season was Mitchell Trubisky in 2019. Since then, every team except the Bears and the New York Jets have had a 3,000-yard passer during that period.
