What’s the latest with the Chicago Bears?
There are plenty of questions facing the Bears this offseason, and the status of general manager Ryan Poles is certainly something to monitor. With reports of a power struggle between Poles and president Kevin Warren, could Poles actually be out as GM? Dan Wiederer shared an article with some damning evidence about Poles, including how Matt Eberflus hire wasn't forced on him; Poles made the decision to hire him because he wanted to.
Here’s a look at the most recent and relevant Bears stories for the morning of Saturday, Dec. 14:
Bears didn't force Matt Eberflus hire on GM Ryan Poles
But, according to the Chicago Tribune's Dan Wiederer, Eberflus was never forced on Poles. While Poles wasn't involved in the coaching search before being handed the finalists, he did make the decision to hire Eberflus. But perhaps the most egregious move was the decision to retain Eberflus last offseason, when there was an opportunity to start anew with incoming quarterback Caleb Williams.
Bears GM Ryan Poles ignored warnings about signing Nate Davis
According to Wiederer, Poles had been warned by in-house coaches, who had worked with Davis with the Tennessee Titans, that he had a reputation for being "apathetic," a bad teammate and lacked the "football passion" that Poles wants from his players. Still, Poles made the move to sign him.
Caleb Williams sends vote of confidence to Bears front office
The offensive line for the Bears has allowed 56 sacks on their rookie quarterback, and in the midst of a seven-game losing streak, it's obvious that the offensive and defensive lines need to be addressed. When asked on Thursday about his trust in the current front office and Bears regime to address the holes on the roster and turn things around for the franchise, Williams gave words of optimism for the decision makers above him.
