What’s the latest with the Chicago Bears?
We at Bears Wire would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. Thanks to everyone who has read and continues to read and support our wonderful writers. We all really appreciate your continued support, especially during difficult seasons like this one.
With a new year comes new hope. Or at least, that's how we want to look at it. So as we kick off 2025, let's focus on some positives surrounding a team where there's been a lot of negatives last year. The Bears finally appear to have a quarterback in Caleb Williams. Now, they just need the right head coach to develop him and get this team on track. Speaking of, this is an extremely attractive job that could lure someone like Ben Johnson to help take this offense to the next level. Chicago also is guaranteed a top-10 draft pick -- currently slotted at No. 9 -- and project to have three picks in the top 45.
Here’s a look at the most recent and relevant Bears stories for the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025:
Bears coaching search: New details emerge from Albert Breer
NFL insider Albert Breer has his pulse on the Bears amid their coaching search, and he shared a new in-depth look at where the organization is right now. What are they looking for, who will run the search and who are the prime contenders? We broke it down.
NFL insider says Bears 'best bet' to land Ben Johnson
Making an appearance on "Good Morning Football" on Tuesday morning, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero was asked about the latest on Johnson, who appears to be be closer than ever to his first head coaching job. With all signs continuing to point him towards the Bears, Pelissero said the current best bet for Johnson is to be the next head coach in Chicago.
Are the Bears going to fire Ryan Poles? The latest on Chicago's GM
Despite team president and CEO Kevin Warren publicly backing Poles during a December press conference, there is reason to believe the Bears general manager is on the hot seat. The team has performed worse after Eberflus was let go, and many of the players that were counted on as key building blocks haven't shown enough improvement. The two longest losing streaks in Bears history have come under his watch, and it's fair to question whether or not a new head coach would want to tie themselves to Poles.
