Bayern Munich sporting director confirms Mathys Tel wants to leave amid Man United interest
Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed Mathys Tel wants to leave the club before the close of the transfer window.
It was recently reported that Tel is keen on leaving Bayern in search of guaranteed first-team minutes elsewhere.
United are believed to be keen on signing him, especially if either Marcus Rashford or Alejandro Garnacho depart over the course of the next few days.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed that United want to sign Tel but only on an initial loan deal. There have been suggestions that the 19-year-old wants a switch to Old Trafford ahead of all other possible transfer destinations.
In addition to United, the other Premier League clubs weighing up a move for Tel are Chelsea, London and Tottenham Hotspur.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa also contacted Bayern to ask about the conditions of a deal.

Romano also reported that United made a call, expressing their interest in the Sarcelles-born footballer.
On Wednesday night, after Bayern’s 3-1 win over Slovan Bratislava, Eberl gave an update on Tel’s future.
Eberl said [via football.london], “We spoke in December, and Mathys said he wanted to establish himself. Now he says he wants to leave.”
“There’s no bad blood. I can understand him. I’ve rarely had so many clubs call me about a player before.”
Tel started against Bratislava and was on the pitch for 62 minutes before being replaced by Kingsley Coman. After the final whistle, Tel appeared to be saying goodbye to Bayern fans.

Asked by Sky Germany if that was his final appearance for the Bavarian outfit, he replied, “I don’t know.”
Tel has largely been used as an impact substitute at Bayern so far in his career and it seems he’s finally ready to make the step-up and become a key player at another club.
