The unusual circumstances surrounding Dani Olmo and his registration issues at FC Barcelona have sparked interest from several European clubs regarding the player’s future.

The 26-year-old midfielder’s registration expired on December 31 and the club have failed to re-register him, Olmo has a special clause in his contract allowing him to leave as a free agent.

The Spanish international has grown frustrated by the situation but has maintained his stance of wanting to remain at Barça.

Despite that, several clubs across Europe are keeping tabs on his situation if the UEFA Euro 2024 winner decides to leave, with Bayern Munich having been one of them.

Bayern no longer keen on Olmo

Bayern had been interested in signing Olmo from RB Leipzig prior to his move to Barcelona and continue to admire the player.

However, according to BILD (h/t SPORT), Bayern Munich have dismissed the possibility of signing the Spaniard despite exploring the situation, as the Bundesliga giants realise that a long-term acquisition is unlikely.

Bayern do not plan to make significant moves in the January transfer market. While Olmo presented a unique opportunity – particularly given his familiarity with the Bundesliga – the club does not see value in signing him for a short-term stint.

The Bavarians believe Olmo would have been a great fit at the club due to his quality and familiarity with the league, but the player’s commitment to Barcelona complicates the prospect.

Olmo has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave if registration problems persist, but he has no plans to exercise it. His clear goal is to succeed at the Catalan outfit.

Even in the worst-case scenario if the playmaker were to leave Barça in January, his intention is to return to the club in June, when registration issues would presumably no longer be a problem.

In these circumstances, Bayern have decided against pursuing the player solely for a six-month arrangement, despite his obvious talent.

Olmo does have other options, with AC Milan for one, being open to signing him on a short-term deal.

For now, though, neither Olmo nor his representatives are exploring alternatives. Both remain confident that Barça will resolve the issue, enabling him to play for the remainder of the season.
