Bayern Munich revive Joao Palhinha transfer with new £30m bid for Fulham midfielder

Bayern Munich are in talks with Fulham over a deal to sign Joao Palhinha.

The Bundesliga giants have made a bid worth around £30million for the midfielder after reviving their interest in him.

Palhinha was close to joining Bayern for £58m last summer but the move fell through on transfer deadline day because Fulham failed to sign a replacement in time.

He subsequently signed a lucrative new contract until 2028, with the option for a further year, but the 28-year-old could now leave Craven Cottage this summer.

Palhinha has been a revelation since joining Fulham for £17m from Sporting CP in 2022.

He was the Premier League’s most prolific tackler in each of the past two seasons and is set to be a key player for Portugal at Euro 2024.

Bayern are pressing ahead with plans to back new manager Vincent Kompany with new signings after finishing third in Germany and failing to win a trophy this season.

Fulham vice-chairman and sporting director Tony Khan said in February that Palhinha’s sale could be sanctioned for the right price.

Khan said: “I would want him as part of the team for as long as possible and we were very happy to extend his contract, but if an offer came along that would make sense for everyone I think that’s something you have to consider with every player at the right time.”

Fulham have already lost one key player this month, with defender Tosin Adarabioyo joining Chelsea on a free transfer.
