As reported by Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich will open initial discussions with Manuel Neuer by the end of the year regarding a possible contract extension beyond 2025.

It was never the Rekordmeister’s plan to come to a final decision this season, but one is expected to be made between January and March. It could well be that this is the final season for Neuer and if that is the case, Alexander Nübel, in his second season of a two-year spell at Stuttgart, would be the favourite to take the number one jersey.

But this hasn’t stopped Bayern Munich from scouring the market, with Jonas Urbig of 1. FC Köln on the club’s shortlist. The German youth international has a contract with the 2. Bundesliga side until 2026 and would cost between €5m and €7m.

As reported earlier, Neuer is currently experiencing the worst season of his career when it comes to shot-stopping. The 38-year-old is currently averaging a 53.3% save percentage this season. Compared to other Bundesliga keepers, that would put him 16th out of the other 18 Bundesliga keepers.
