Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong eyes Liverpool switch

Bayer Leverkusen right-wing-back Jeremie Frimpong has reportedly set his sights on a move to Liverpool.

According to Bild (July 10, Page 10), Frimpong only has three clubs on his mind for a transfer this summer – Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Arsenal.

This preference gives Liverpool an advantage in the race for his signature.

His potential addition to the squad will boost the club’s quest to dethrone Manchester City.

The 23-year-old Dutchman has been tearing up the Bundesliga, earning rave reviews for his performances.

Frimpong played a pivotal role in Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga title win, dethroning Bayern Munich after a period of sustained dominance. He was also a crucial player as they clinched the DFB-Pokal.

He is a versatile defender who can cover many positions, although he primarily played as a right-wing-back last term under Xabi Alonso.

Frimpong racked up an impressive 26 goal contributions across 47 appearances in all competitions last season.

He is currently representing the Netherlands at the 2024 European Championship but could be sold when he returns from the tournament.

The former Celtic and Man City wing-back will be in high demand after a terrific 2023/24 campaign.

However, Liverpool might not be the ideal landing spot for the Leverkusen defender. The Reds are not currently looking for a right-back.

Liverpool have Trent Alexander-Arnold, one of the best right-backs in football. His contract runs out in 2025, which could cause some worry, but there is a belief he will renew.

Behind him, Conor Bradley had an excellent breakout campaign last term, adeptly deputising in the absence of Alexander-Arnold. Liverpool also have Joe Gomez waiting to fill in any gaps.

While Frimpong may dream of a move to Anfield, there is no space in the Liverpool squad for another right-back. He will be better served angling for a transfer to Real Madrid or Arsenal.
