‘Battle Of Brothers’ As France Stars Set To Face Off In Inter Milan Vs Juventus Serie A Clash

It will be a real “battle of brothers” as Marcus and Khephren Thuram are set to go head-to-head in this weekend’s Derby d’Italia.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

The Thuram name is certainly a familiar one within Serie A.

Legendary former French international defender Lilian Thuram left his mark on the division during his time with Parma and Juventus.

But it’s the next generation who have taken the reigns in the last couple years.

Striker Marcus joined Inter last summer. He arrived on a free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Thuram’s decision to join Inter, the rivals of his father’s old team Juventus, could have raised a couple of eyebrows.

But it was in fact Lilian who supported the move. He advised Marcus to join the Nerazzurri where he would find a team that best suited him on the pitch, regardless of rivalries.

Then this summer, Lilian saw another of his sons not only move to Serie A – but play for the team he had played for in the Italian top flight.

23-year-old midfielder Khrephren became the first player to wear the Bianconeri jersey with the Thuram name on the back in a couple decades. He joined from Nice.

“Battle Of Brothers” As Marcus & Khephren Thuram Set To Face Off In Inter vs Juventus Clash

As Tuttosport note, there has been one other occasion where Marcus and Khephren Thuram were on the position on opposite sides.

This was in 2019, during a Coupe de la Ligue tie in France.

At the time, Marcus was still at Guingamp. That is the club where he first made his name as a regular starter.

Meanwhile, Khephren was at Monaco at that time. The young midfielder never really broke through there, having to wait until he joined Nice.

But Khephren did come off the pitch during the second half of that cup clash.

In the end, Marcus prevailed on that occasion.

Guingamp moved on in a penalty shootout after the match ended 2-2. Marcus was on the scoresheet during normal time, but missed his effort in the shootout despite his team going through.

Now, it looks very likely that Marcus and Khephren will face off for the second time.

And this time, the two French internationals should both start. And in some very high profile circumstances.

There is virtually no doubt that Marcus would be in the Inter starting eleven for such an important match.

The 27-year-old has had a starring role in attack for the Nerazzurri virtually since joining.

And Khephren has started to stake his claim on a starting spot in midfield for Juventus after a few early injury struggles.

And it is the Derby d’Italia. Few matches carry the significance of that fixture in Italian football – not least with potential title ramifications.
