Basketball-Korean coach under fixing scanner - report

SEOUL, May 26 (Reuters) - Police in South Korea are investigating a coach over allegations of possible match-fixing in the country's basketball league (KBL), the Yonhap news agency reported. Police in Seoul said Chun Chang-jin, the current coach of Anyang KGC, allegedly bet against his previous team, Busan KT Sonicboom, when he was coaching them in February and March. Police also detained two men, who they said were acquaintances of Chun, and had placed illegal bets on the games. Both men said Chun was not involved, Yonhap reported. A law firm representing Chun said he loaned one of the men some money but was unaware he planned to use it for illegal gambling. The firm said Chun denies all the allegations against him and will fight to clear his name. The KBL said they were co-operating with police but knew little more about the case. "We first became aware of the situation through a report last night, and we've not been in touch with Chun himself," KBL secretary general Lee Jae-min told a news conference. "What we do know at this point is that Chun has been implicated in illegal gambling allegations. We will continue to cooperate with the police as much as we can so that we will have the results at the earliest possible date." The KBL was hit by another match-fixing scandal two years ago which resulted in a coach being banned for life for throwing games.
