April 20 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Monday's Major League Baseball games: - - - White Sox 4, Indians 3 Melky Cabrera hit a bases-loaded, game-winning single as the Chicago White Sox scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth to rally past the Cleveland Indians at U.S. Cellular Field. Earlier in the inning, Avisail Garcia hit a one-out double off Cody Allen (0-2). Conor Gillaspie followed with a walk, and both runners scored on a double to center field by Alexei Ramirez that made it 3-2. Three straight singles followed, by Tyler Flowers, Gordon Beckham and Adam Eaton, to score Ramirez with the tying run and load the bases for Cabrera. The veteran left fielder lofted a liner to left that landed beyond the outfielders, who were playing shallow. Allen squandered a lead the Indians built while Trevor Bauer threw seven scoreless innings. White Sox starter John Danks allowed three runs in six innings and David Robertson (1-0) threw one shutout inning for the win. - - - Tigers 2, Yankees 1 Alfredo Simon out-dueled C.C. Sabathia and Yoenis Cespedes drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh as Detroit edged New York. Simon (3-0) held the Yankees to one run on seven hits in 7 1/3 innings while striking out six. Joakim Soria collected his fifth save. Cespedes and J.D. Martinez contributed run-scoring singles for the Tigers, who have the league's best record (11-2). - - - Reds 6, Brewers 1 Zack Cozart and Joey Votto hit home runs and rookie Anthony Desclafani threw eight scoreless innings as Cincinnati snapped a four-game losing streak with a victory over Milwaukee. Descalfani held the Brewers to two hits and a walk while striking out five. He gave up two runs in his first start of the season but has since thrown 15 consecutive scoreless innings. - - - Cubs 5, Pirates 2 Rookie Kris Bryant hit a tie-breaking, two-run double in the seventh inning, finishing with three hits and three RBIs to lead Chicago past Pittsburgh. After Jorge Soler doubled and Anthony Rizzo walked with one out in the seventh, Bryant hit a drive to the base of the wall in left-center off Arquimedes Caminero (0-1) to score both runners. Bryant scored on the same play when he took third on the throw home and then came home when catcher Francisco Cervelli missed the ball. - - - Royals 7, Twins 1 Edinson Volquez pitched seven sharp innings and Kendrys Morales drove in two runs with two hits as Kansas City beat Minnesota. Royals rookie Paulo Orlando added a two-run triple in a three-run eighth. Orlando, who is the only the third major-leaguer born in Brazil and spent nine years in the minors, leads the majors with five triples. - - - Red Sox 7, Orioles 1 (6 1/2 innings) Mookie Betts scored two runs in Boston's rain-shortened win over Baltimore. The victory, which came after and a one hour, 42-minute stoppage due to inclement weather, snapped a two-game skid for the Red Sox and earned them a split in the four-game series. - - - Padres 14, Rockies 3 San Diego piled up 17 hits, including three each by right fielder Matt Kemp, who had four RBIs, and catcher Brad Norris, in a rout of Colorado. Yonder Alonso drove in three runs for the Padres while the first three batters in the lineup, Wil Myers, Norris and Kemp, all had three hits. - - - Astros 7, Mariners 5 Luis Valbuena hit two solo home runs, including the go-ahead shot in the eighth inning, as the American West-leading Houston Astros earned a win over Seattle. Houston closer Luke Gregerson pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record his third save of the season. - - - Athletics 6, Angels 3 Stephen Vogt's three-run home run in the third inning propelled Oakland to a 6-3 win over Los Angeles. Vogt launched an 0-2 pitch from Angels starter Matt Shoemaker into the seats beyond the right-center field fence, putting the A's up for good. Billy Butler added two hits for Oakland.
