Van Steensel is the third OHL player to commit to Clarkson. Kitchener Rangers' forward Adrian Misaljevic announced his commitment to the school after teammate Jackson Parsons who was the first OHL player to commit to an NCAA school.
North Bay drafted Van Steensel in the fourth round of the 2020 OHL Priority Selection. Since then he has played in 241 OHL games and scored a total of 178 points.
So far this season, the Ilderton native has 30 points in 42 games. After the deal with Barrie, Van Steensel was reunited with Anthony Romani and Dalyn Wakely. The trio scored more than 300 points playing together for the Battalion last season.
Analysts consider the Colts to be one of the deepest rosters in the Eastern Conference. Van Steensel and his new teammates will attempt to make a run for an OHL championship before he joins Clarkson.
Van Steensel has always been a playoff performer. In a total of 49 playoff games, Van Steensel has scored 36 points. He was especially successful last season scoring 20 points in 11 games.
His experience and skill will make great additions to Clarkson next season. While attending the school Van Steensel will have the opportunity to get an education while continuing his hockey career.
