Barcelona youngster ‘who has surprised Flick most’ to start vs Valencia

An up-and-coming member of the midfield ranks at Barcelona is expected to be play a prominent in the club’s La Liga season opener this weekend.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Marc Bernal as the player in question.

Youngster Bernal has of course seen his name take its place front and centre in the chatter surrounding Barcelona heading into the new season.

As much comes with the Spaniard, at just 17 years of age, having showcased flashes of absolutely remarkable potential.

After shining in training, Bernal was rewarded by way of pre-season starts against both Manchester City and Real Madrid.

And, despite his tender years, and the quality of opposition, the gifted midfielder went on to hold his own, showcasing all of the traits of a quality ‘6’ in the making.

So much so that, as alluded to above, Bernal has today been tipped to feature from the off, when Barca kick the club’s La Liga campaign into gear against Valencia on Saturday.

With Frenkie de Jong, Gavi and Pedri still unavailable for selection, Sport report that:

‘The player who has surprised Hansi Flick the most is Marc Bernal. The 17-year-old has been one of the highlights of the pre-season playing as a pivot, and he will probably keep his place against Valencia.’
