As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Pau Prim was on the verge of extending his contract with Barcelona, but an unexpected financial offer from Al Sadd in Qatar, along with another proposal from Saudi Arabian club Al Qadisiyah, threw a spanner in the works.

The attention on Barça Atletic, Barcelona’s second team, is growing, with Prim now at the centre of it. This comes after Unai Hernandez’s likely departure to Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, which has left the team with a gap.

Prim is currently in talks with Qatari club Al Sadd about a potential move, though the deal may not be finalised until the summer transfer window.

The negotiations are still ongoing, and it is possible that the deal could have a significant impact right away.

However, the situation is more complex than it seems. If Prim delays his move to Al Sadd, the Qatari club would avoid paying the transfer fee now, which is a considerable amount of money.

There’s still work to do

On the other hand, this means that Prim would be sidelined until June, similar to the past few months where he has been absent from the squad of a struggling Barça Atletic side.

The team is currently just one point above the relegation zone in the Second Federation, making Prim’s absence a crucial blow to the team’s survival in the league.

Sources close to Barcelona have confirmed that Prim had initially agreed to a long-term contract renewal with the club.

Multiple reasons for his exit

However, the lucrative financial offers from Al Sadd and Al Qadisiya halted the progress of the deal, despite all documentation for the new contract already being prepared.

The scale of the financial proposals made it hard for Prim to turn them down.

Another factor in Prim’s decision could be the lack of a clear sporting future at Barcelona.

As one of the most promising midfielders in youth football, his rise within the club has been hindered with the promotion of Marc Casado to the first team and Marc Bernal.

This shift in focus from Barcelona’s management may have influenced Prim’s decision to explore offers that would guarantee him a more prominent role.
