The January transfer window is a little more than a month away and the rumour mill is buzzing with speculations about possible deals that could happen.

However, according to SPORT, Barcelona are not planning to make any signings in the January transfer window as things stand.

Instead, the idea is to strengthen the roster in the summer window of 2025 while not making any significant sales either.

In fact, the report states that manager Hansi Flick and director Deco have already outlined the strategy for the summer with the idea being to strengthen three key areas in the squad – left-wing, right-back, and left-back.

Options for left-wing

It is no secret that Barcelona already had plans to reinforce the left flank last summer with Nico Williams and later Rafael Leao being linked, although FFP issues meant nothing came of it.

However, Flick and Deco remain intent on strengthening the position with a game-changing sign and both Williams and Leao continue to feature on the club’s shortlist.

Along with them, Barça are also considering other players like Leroy Sane (Bayern Munich), Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Napoli), and Karim Adeyemi of Borussia Dortmund.

The Catalans are also keeping tabs on the situation of Mohamed Salah, whose contract at Liverpool expires at the end of the season.

The full-back slots

Like with the left flank, Barcelona also tried to rope in a new right-back last summer after failing to land Joao Cancelo on a permanent deal.

Marc Pubill was another player that the La Liga leaders looked at but there was not enough salary margin for them to sign him on loan with a permanent buy option.

Even though Jules Kounde has excelled and Hector Fort is also available, Barça are eager to reinforce the position and have identified several targets.

A similar strategy is being employed for the left-back slot as well, as Barcelona intend to sign another top player for the position despite the presence of Alejandro Balde and Gerard Martin.

Alphonso Davies (free agent in 2025) is well-liked and is a player familiar to Flick but could be headed to Real Madrid. Other options like Alvaro Carreras and Hugo Bueno are also being studied.
