Barcelona target Nico Williams sends message to Athletic Club fans after season opener

Athletic Club star and long-time Barcelona target Nico Williams has on Friday sent a message the way of his club’s fanbase.

As much, of course, comes after Athletic got their campaign for 2024/25 up and running on Thursday night.

Welcoming Getafe to Blbao, Ernesto Valverde’s troops were ultimately forced to settle for a share of the spoils, after Oihan Sancet’s opener was cancelled out decisively by Christantus Uche.

The aforementioned Nico, for his part, was forced to make do with a spot on the bench from the off at San Mamés, still recovering full fitness following his exploits with Spain at Euro 2024.

Upon being introduced to proceedings, though, the 22-year-old was afforded a well-deserved ovation.

No doubt in part owing to his triumphant endeavours at the Euros, and in part to his ongoing rejection of La Liga rivals Barcelona, the Athletic faithful flooded their star attacker with cheers and applause.

And as much, evidently, did not go at all unappreciated on the part of Williams himself.

Taking to his official Instagram account in the game’s aftermath, the winger unveiled footage of the standing ovation afforded to him, accompanied by the caption:

“Goosebumps”
