By this point, it has become abundantly clear that FC Barcelona are prepared to do everything in their power to secure the signing of Nico Williams from Athletic Club.

The 21-year-old winger has been tearing it up for club and country over the past year and is one of Spain’s stars at the ongoing UEFA Euro 2024, putting him on several top clubs’ radars.

But Barcelona appear to be the frontrunners to sign Nico with an agreement in principle already said to be in place between the player and the club.

Nico Williams does not feature in Athletic Club’s kit launch

Just a while ago, Athletic Club unveiled their home kit for the 2024/25 season and in what could be seen as a huge hint about a possible transfer away from San Mames this summer.

The 21-year-old has been one of Athletic Club’s best players in the recent past and as such, his absence from the kit launch is telling.

Nico signed a new contract with the Basque outfit back in December last year, amid widespread interest. However, he could be on his way out soon despite the long-term renewal.

With reports of an agreement over personal terms with Barcelona already doing the rounds, a departure may very well be on the cards.

However, what is certain is that Athletic will not negotiate a lower fee for the winger’s departure and will hold Barcelona to his €58 million release clause to be paid in full.

Williams has been a key player for Spain at the ongoing UEFA Euro 2024, helping them reach the finals of the tournament.

The 21-year-old will start in the final this weekend against the winners of the semi-final between England and the Netherlands.

Once the tournament is done, things could speed up as far as Nico’s move to Barcelona is concerned, although the Catalans still need to resolve their financial situation.
