Earlier today, we reported that Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is attracting strong interest from the Premier League trio of Manchester City, Manchester United, and Newcastle United.

The 25-year-old’s current contract with Barça expires in 2026 and talks over a new deal have been opened, with the club tabling a renewal proposal.

However, Araujo and his camp are yet to respond to the offer, leading to mounting speculations over his contract.

And, there is no shortage of interest in the defender from the Premier League, with Manchester United, in particular, pushing hard for his signing.

Araujo future to be decided after Copa America

Despite the growing interest in Araujo and Barcelona’s need to make an important sale, a decision over his future will not be made in a hurry.

Instead, the Barça captain’s future will be resolved only after the Copa America is out of the way, reports Catalunya Radio.

The defender started La Celeste’s first match against Panama but had to be taken off at half-time due to dizziness and dehydration.

However, having recovered from the problem, Araujo started and played the full game as Uruguay beat Bolivia 5-0 last night at the MetLife Stadium.

Araujo & co. will play hosts USA next with a spot in the knockout rounds almost confirmed. Should Uruguay go all the way to the finals, the Barcelona captain will have to stay with the national team until July 15.

Following that, the defender is likely to have a short vacation before returning for the pre-season, at which point a decision over his future is likely to be made.

For what it’s worth, Barcelona remain intent on keeping hold of Araujo and have made it clear to him. However, they are not in a position to offer a contract as lucrative as some of his suitors.

So, it remains to be seen how things develop once the player returns from Copa America.
