Barcelona still open to remaining at Montjuic until the end of the season
It was reported yesterday that the Barcelona board has scheduled an ordinary meeting this week, where the topic of the potential venue for the next Clasico will be discussed for the first time.
At the moment, Barça are quite serious about shifting the Clasico to a foreign European stadium while simultaneously working on the prospect of returning to Camp Nou.
Barcelona refuse to rule out Montjuic continuation
Now, RAC1 has offered a fresh update on the matter, suggesting that Barcelona have not yet ruled out the prospect of finishing the season at Montjuic.
This is a significant development considering the fact that many outlets are claiming that the club have practically ruled out the option of playing the next Clasico at Montjuic.
Earlier in the year, Barça did reach an agreement with the Barcelona City Council, effectively extending the stay at Montjuic from March to April.
Now, it appears the Catalans are looking to finish the season at Montjuic, perhaps realising that the return to Camp Nou this season is going to be a challenging task.
The club, after all, have been dealt with numerous setbacks with regard to construction works at Camp Nou. These numerous delays have only added more doubts about the stadium’s readiness by May.
Therefore, renewing the agreement with the City Council once more has become a key objective for the Catalan outfit.
As per the report, a key to reaching an agreement with the authorities will be to gain the approval of the music promoters, who have scheduled multiple concerts at Montjuic.
The Rolling Stones, for one, has scheduled a concert at Montjuic on the same weekend as the Clasico. Barcelona, therefore, must seek an agreement with the music promoters if they are to continue using Montjuic until the end of the season.
