A leading member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona was nowhere to be seen in the club’s promotional release of their kit for the new season.

Barca, of course, unveiled their home shirt for 2024/25 on Thursday.

The offering went down a treat with supporters, who flooded to the club’s official store to purchase the jersey in their droves.

Barcelona, for their part, accompanied the release with a series of posts across social media, showcasing the club’s stars in what will be their most-used colours for the campaign to come.

The likes of Alejandro Balde, Pedri, Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsí, Raphinha, Gavi, Lewandowski, Ronald Araújo and Fermín López were all present in the photos and videos.

One member of Hansi Flick’s squad who was not, however, is Frenkie de Jong.

Though this would under normal circumstances not be considered a noteworthy takeaway, De Jong is for his part a Nike-sponsored athlete.

He was therefore expected to feature prominently in the release of what is a new Nike kit.

Diario Sport, in turn, conclude that:

‘De Jong’s continuity is not assured and Barça needs to raise money this summer to be able to face some of the pending operations.’
