A long-time member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona was not afforded a call to attend the club’s upcoming round of pre-season medical tests.

That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards Sergi Roberto as the player in question.

Midfielder Roberto’s situation in Catalunya’s capital is of course altogether up in the air at this moment in time.

As much comes after the Spanish international’s contract terms were allowed to expire at the end of last month.

Conflicting reports have since spread regarding Barcelona’s plans for their captain from last season, with it remaining unclear whether or not he will return for the 2024/25 campaign.

Roberto, for his part, remains hopeful of as much, albeit aware that the Blaugrana cannot commit to a new contract until the club’s financial situation becomes more clear.

And, as per AS, for this reason:

‘He has not been called up for next Wednesday to go to the Ciutat Esportiva to undergo medical tests. That means that he is not expected for the first training sessions either.’

Roberto, all told, is therefore considered to be ‘in limbo’.
