Barcelona star is the ‘highest performing centre-back’ in La Liga this season

The excellent start to the campaign to have been enjoyed by Barcelona star Iñigo Martínez has this weekend been perfectly summed up in one statistic.

This comes amid confirmation that the veteran stopper has, statistically, been the standout centre-half in La Liga in 2024/25.

Iñigo has for his part of course played a starring role for Barcelona over the early months of the new season.

Owing to consistent brilliance in and out of possession alike, the 33-year-old has established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet of boss Hansi Flick.

Iñigo, all told, has featured from the off in all but one of Barca’s fixtures en route to a spot atop the Spanish top-flight table.

And, as alluded to above, along the way, the former Athletic Club man has proven himself the division’s very best in his position.

As per statisticians DataMB, taking into account all aspects of the game, Iñigo is ‘the highest performing centre-back in La Liga so far this season’.

The Blaugrana standout leads Real Sociedad’s Nayef Aguerd in 2nd, with Pau Cubarsí joined by Real Madrid stalwart Antonio Rüdiger in 3rd.
