The powers that be at La Liga outfit Girona are continuing to express a keen interest in the signing of a member of the defensive ranks at Catalan rivals Barcelona.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Eric García as the player in question.

Stopper Eric, for his part, of course spent this past season plying his trade with Girona, as part of a year-long loan.

And the 23-year-old went on to rediscover his very best form whilst at the Estadi Montilivi, playing a starring role in Girona’s remarkable 3rd-placed La Liga finish.

He has since gone on to return to base with parent club Barcelona, with the recent injury suffered by Ronald Araújo having seen it suggested that Eric is increasingly likely to stay put.

The brass at the Montilivi, however, have not yet given up hope of bringing the former Manchester City man back to the club.

As per MD:

‘He is Quique Cárcel’s first choice to reinforce the right centre-back and, with David López and Juanpe marking the veteran status in the ‘Gironis’ dressing room, the sporting management would love to achieve the ideal concoction with Ladislav Krejci and Eric himself.’

It is reiterated that any move will prove a difficult one to come by, with Eric still held in high regard at Barcelona, but Girona will not give up their pursuit without a fight.

One to keep an eye on over the weeks ahead…
