FC Barcelona and the City Council of Barcelona are on the verge of reaching an agreement that could significantly speed up the ongoing renovation works at the Spotify Camp Nou, reports Mundo Deportivo.

Both parties are in good communication and are looking to allow construction to continue 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in a bid to meet key deadlines.

The renovation of the Spotify Camp Nou is progressing but with some delays, leading to the postponement of the Catalans’ return to their hallowed home ground. However, the construction work could see a significant acceleration from next week.

Barcelona and construction company Limak have set a target for the team to return to the stadium for the El Clasico against Real Madrid, which is scheduled for 11 May.

A nearly finalised agreement between the club and the City Council of Barcelona could help make this possible.

According to the report, Barcelona and the local authorities, with approval from the residents of Les Corts, are close to finalising a deal that would allow work on the stadium to proceed more quickly.

The agreement would enable construction workers to operate around the clock, every day of the week.

If there are no setbacks, the agreement is expected to be formalised next week, giving Limak just over three months to push forward with the works and meet the goal of having the Spotify Camp Nou ready in time for the Clasico in May.

If it does not materialise, the Blaugrana could move the Clasico to Estadi Johan Cruyff while the idea of playing the game at a major European stadium is also being considered.

The priority, however, remains to have the match at the renovated Camp Nou, which will be capable of accommodating around 60,000 fans.
