After almost a year out, Barcelona midfield prodigy Gavi appears set to make his comeback to football right after the international break.

Indeed, the 20-year-old La Masia sensation has been training well with the group for the past month and even participated in a mini-training match earlier this week to get some minutes under his belt.

As such, all signs point towards Gavi making it to the matchday squad for Barcelona’s upcoming La Liga clash against Sevilla on October 20.

Double joy for Barcelona

The date of October 20 will be one of celebration for Barcelona as they will welcome Gavi back after nearly a year out.

However, as per Mundo Deportivo, the Catalans will have another cause for celebration on the day of the midfielder’s return.

In addition to Gavi’s much-anticipated return, the same day will also see Barcelona receive a financial boost of over €6 million.

This compensation will come from FIFA as part of their club protection program for the extended absence of the young midfielder.

After the youngster’s injury lasted for 28 days, on December 16, 2023, the program was activated under which FIFA pays a maximum compensation of €7.5 million for each player affected by an injury.

This amount is calculated based on a daily rate of up to €20,548, payable for a maximum of 365 days. The compensation is determined by the fixed salary Barcelona pays to Gavi, excluding any variable components.

On October 19, just one day before the team’s match against Sevilla, Gavi will have been absent for 307 days. If he receives medical clearance on the same day as the match, this absence will extend to 308 days.

This means that Barcelona stands to gain over €6 million due to Gavi’s long-term injury. If he is cleared to play on October 19, the club will receive €6,308,236. Should he get the green light on the day of the match, that figure will rise to €6,328,784.

With Gavi’s return and the financial boost coinciding, Barcelona are poised for a double celebration that could lift the spirits of the entire club.
