Barcelona see youngster with €100m release clause as ‘untouchable’ and ‘non-transferable’
Marc Casado has been the revelation of the season for FC Barcelona. The 21-year-old breakthrough into the first team has led him to the Spanish national team when just a year ago he was playing with the club’s reserve team in Primera RFEF.
Casado is completely backed by manager Hansi Flick and the Catalans’ sporting department for the present and the future.
Untouchable and non-transferable
Indeed, SPORT reports that despite drawing significant attention in the European market, Barça will not even consider offers for him.
The Blaugrana consider the La Masia graduate ‘untouchable’ and ‘non-transferable’, despite Premier League clubs having tracked him for some time.
Clubs from the Premier League had already been tracking Casado when he was still in the reserve team. But Flick’s arrival, who wanted him for the first team, and the midfielder’s desire to succeed at Barça prevented his departure.
The interest remains active, but Barcelona consider Casado one of their non-transferable players.
Contract improvement on the cards
Casado’s contract was due to expire at the end of the last season, but the club managed to renew him until 2028 with the clear objective of giving him first-team minutes.
Having seized his opportunities under Flick, Casado has become a permanent fixture in the team – so much so that Barcelona are clear that his contract will be improved at the end of the season.
Currently, Casado is one of the squad members with the lowest salary, while having a release clause of €100 million.
This figure could become attractive in the future, particularly to the Premier League market, so the club’s objective is to increase the protection.
Nevertheless, Casado is absolutely clear that his future lies with Barça, where he has earned a starting position and where he can progress in the future.
Casado has played 15 matches this season with five assists. Most importantly, he has ended the debate about the defensive midfielder position following Sergio Busquets’s departure.
In fact, Barcelona are no longer considering investing in midfield whilst awaiting Marc Bernal’s recovery, and internally, that area of the pitch is considered absolutely covered.
