Barcelona see Nico Williams as ‘priority signing’ following his performance with Spain

Barcelona have been in search of a winger for quite some time now, and several names have been put on the table so far.

It is known that with the potential sale of Raphinha, Barcelona will aim to sign either Luis Diaz or Nico Williams.

Even though the board were divided over Williams earlier, the club administration now seems convinced of him following his flawless performance against Georgia, reports Alex Pintanel – a journalist close to the Catalan club.

However, Deco, a prominent voice within the Barcelona officials, still sees Diaz as a better fit for the Blaugrana, which means that things could drastically change in terms of who the definitive target will be.

What is Athletic Bilbao asking?

With interest from almost every big European club, Athletic Bilbao is not getting into negotiations with any of the potential suitors, and refer to his €58 million release clause.

This means that the player would basically choose himself where to play next season.

Even though at first glance Barcelona seem off due to his price, the player’s relationship with Lamine Yamal could put things in the Catalan club’s favor.

Barcelona still need sales

Without a sale, it looks difficult to adhere to Financial Fairplay rules, particularly the 1:1 rule that the club plans to upgrade to following some player exits.

This means that either of the two pursuits, Williams and Diaz, will not be able to finalise without off-loading some of the current players.

We will need to wait and see how things will develop in Barcelona, but one thing is certain – a chaotic transfer market is awaiting us.
