Barcelona are currently on a spree of contract renewals. Ronald Araujo and Gerard Martin have signed new deals while there is a verbal agreement to extend Pedri’s stay at the club until 2030. Meanwhile, Gavi’s contract renewal is also almost secured.

Negotiations are next expected to take place with other players like Inaki Pena and Lamine Yamal, whose contracts also expire in 2026.

No negotiations with Frenkie de Jong until June

However, as reported by Miguel Rico, one player who Barcelona will not hold renewal talks with at this moment is Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutchman also finds himself in the same boat as Pena, with his contract also expiring in 2026, meaning he will enter the final year of his contract this summer.

Barcelona had tabled an offer for the midfielder to extend his contract – with a reduced salary – but did not receive any response from him.

As such, the report claims that the Blaugrana have run out of patience with De Jong’s agents and will not open talks with him over a new contract until June.

At that point, the Netherlands international will be entering the final year of his contract and if he does not agree to renew with the terms proposed, Barcelona will put him on the market for sale.

However, if De Jong decides to stay at the club and see out his contract with the idea of leaving for free in 2026, the Catalan giants plan on banishing him from the squad for the entire season.

The situation is far from ideal and it remains to be seen how Barcelona handle it. But the plan, as far as president Joan Laporta is concerned, is that no player will be allowed to enter into the new season with only a year left on their contract.
