Barcelona reveal extent of Marc-André ter Stegen injury

Barcelona have confirmed the knee injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen on Sunday evening.

The Blaugrana goalkeeper was stretchered off in their 5-1 win at Villarreal yesterday with what looked like a bad knock.

And now the club have revealed that the German shot-stopper has suffered a “complete rupture” to his right patella tendon.

A statement said: “Tests carried out on the first team player, Marc ter Stegen confirm that he has a complete rupture in the patella tendon in his right knee.

“On Monday afternoon he will undergo a surgical process and once complete a new update will be released.”

Although there has been no official word on the length of Ter Stegen’s absence, reports from several Spanish outlets claim that the number one could be missing for at least eight months.
