Barcelona reach seven-year record under Hansi Flick
Despite the setback in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, Barcelona came out all guns blazing in La Liga on Sunday, securing a thumping 5-1 win over Villarreal.
Robert Lewandowski extended his lead in the race for the Pichichi trophy with a stunning brace, while Pablo Torre and Raphinha also found the back of the net.
Barcelona reach a seven-year record
Barcelona’s win over Villarreal means they have now won their first six matches in La Liga and have secured all 18 points on offer.
Thanks to their win on Sunday, Barcelona were also able to reach a seven-year record, which is to win the first six league games in La Liga.
The last time Barça achieved this milestone was back in the 2017/18 campaign under the leadership of Ernesto Valverde.
In the same season, the Catalans had also reached a milestone of 43 games unbeaten, which could now be at risk as Real Madrid have extended their unbeaten run to 38 matches this past weekend.
Looking ahead
Following yet another strong performance in La Liga, Barcelona’s objective now will be to continue their push and an early lead over Real Madrid.
The Catalans’ next match will be against Getafe on Wednesday, which will be followed by a clash against Osasuna on Saturday.
Barcelona can build a strong position in the league table if they can secure wins in both these matches. But with a growing injury list, it remains to be seen whether or not the club can continue its momentum in the next few matches.
