Barcelona’s sporting management has been diligently working on multiple contract renewals, which may take precedence over new signings in the upcoming January transfer window.

Their primary focus has been securing the future of two key players, Pedri and Gavi, who are not only integral to the current squad but also among the most coveted prospects in European football.

Barcelona make significant progress

According to a recent report from AS, Barcelona have also made significant progress in their bid to renew the contracts of Pedri and Gavi.

In fact, their contract renewals are “as good as settled” following positive talks with representatives of both players.

An agreement in principle has been reached with the agents of both players, signalling their continued commitment to the club.

However, the official announcement is not hurried due to Barcelona’s ongoing salary cap issues, which currently prevent the immediate registration of these new contracts.

Barcelona’s plan is to formally register them by June 30.

As far as the contracts are concerned, both Pedri and Gavi are expected to extend their stay with Barcelona until 2030, with their contracts including a hefty termination clause of €1,000 million.

The hefty release clause has been a norm for almost every top talent at Barcelona and players such as Lamine Yamal and Alejandro Balde have similar clauses embedded in their respective contracts.

The renewal of Pedri and Gavi could go a long way in helping Barcelona secure the core of the midfield in the years to come.

Once the club finalise their renewals, their next objective will be to tie Frenkie de Jong and Ronald Araujo down to long-term contracts, with both players now reportedly keen on signing a new deal at Camp Nou.
