Yahoo Sports Barcelona pursuit of star signing dependant on La Liga approval
Barcelona are growing in confidence in their pursuit of Athletic Club winger Nico Williams. However, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, the transfer is dependant on La Liga’s approval, who will determine if the deal is in line with Financial Fair Play regulations.
Despite this, the club are continuing talks with the player’s camp and they hope to reach an agreement on personal terms in the next few hours. Club officials spoke with Williams last week about the project and therefore there is optimism that a compromise can be reached to overcome the impasse in negotiations.
The Spaniard has attracted plenty of interest following a standout Euro 2024 campaign. Williams scored in Spain’s 2-1 triumph over England in the final and played a significant role for his country throughout the tournament.
The 22-year-old also impressed at club level last season, scoring eight goals and notching 19 assists to help guide the Basque club to the Copa del Rey trophy and a fifth place finish in La Liga. More contacts are set to take place this week in order to finalise the deal, with Barca regarded as the frontrunners, despite significant interest from Premier League clubs.
