Barcelona president takes pride in La Masia following trophy-laden Ballon d’Or Gala
Barcelona’s delegation attended the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris last night and had a special night on many fronts with some history also written at Theatre du Chatelet.
For starters, Lamine Yamal lifted the Kopa Trophy for his performances through last season and Euro conquering run with Spain. Also nominated from the men’s team for awards were Dani Olmo and Pau Cubarsi.
The women’s team also scripted history with five players settling for a place in the top ten. Historically, all three players with a podium finish were from the same team, recreating the Messi-Xavi-Iniesta moment from 2010.
Unsurprisingly, Barça Femeni was crowned the best women’s team in the world as well.
Laporta’s message
Barcelona president Joan Laporta also travelled with the nominees to Paris last night and was seen with the delegation at the venue.
Taking to his social media after the event, he did not hold back on his excitement and posted a photo of him with Aitana Bonmati (Women’s Ballon d’Or winner) and Lamine Yamal, celebrating their victories.

“Barcelona celebrates 125 years of history with a splendid present and future, with the satisfaction of enjoying La Masia as the Club’s sports engine.”
“Congratulations Aitana, Lamine and the entire women’s football team. Long live Barça!,” he added.
The president’s excitement is understandable given the direction the club is headed in. After all, the women’s team have dominated the sport for a few years now while the men’s team are also getting into shape under Hansi Flick.
After a week where they took down both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, the special night in Paris served as the perfect cherry on the cake and the future looks bright.
