Barcelona president confirms that the club is working on a new signing
For the last few days, the discourse surrounding FC Barcelona has been rather limited to the goalkeeping position. The starting goalkeeper of the Blaugrana side, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is out for the next seven to eight months with his torn patellar tendon, and the club has been closely linked with the former Juventus shot-stopper Wojciech Szczesny as his replacement.
The Polish goalkeeper is expected to arrive at the Catalan club in the coming few days, and will have to compete with Inaki Pena for a starting position. However, the club has still not made any official announcement regarding Szczesny’s arrival.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Barcelona President Joan Laporta attended an event and gave a speech in which he confirmed that his side was looking to sign a goalkeeper, but did not give any hints on who will be signed. In this regard, Laporta commented:
“We are working to ensure that the goalkeeping position does not suffer. And who’s handling that? Deco, who has faced his own challenges.”
The President also publicized his satisfaction with how Flick was managing the team: “He is doing an extraordinary job. He has been studying Barça for a long time.“
Furthermore, Laporta also expressed his happiness with the talent coming out of La Masia: “We are committed to La Masia not out of necessity, but out of conviction. The squad now has more market value than when we arrived, and that is also important for the club’s economic recovery.“
The top Barcelona official also had some good news on the economic front: “The ordinary results (2023-24) are positive, and that is why I can say that the wound is healed. We are increasingly confident of completing the club’s recovery.”
“There are those who insist on proclaiming catastrophes that neither exist nor are expected. Those who seek to distort will have to work much harder to ignore what is being done.”
Thus, from the Barcelona President’s words, it looks like the Blaugrana club is making rapid progress sportingly as well as economically. Hopefully, the financial problems of Barcelona will be solved soon, while Flick seems to already have toppled most of the sporting problems that the team faced.
