Barcelona’s plan to register Olmo through Nike deal thwarted due to objections from three rival clubs
Barelona’s new deal with Nike has opened plenty of avenues for the Catalans on the financial front for it provides massive financial injection into the club’s coffers.
The deal is set to be ratified tomorrow and Barcelona will immediately present the details to La Liga soon after so as to officially improve their financial situation and get closer to the 1:1 rule.
Once approved by La Liga, Barcelona will be boosted by a staggering €158 million bonus from the American sporting giants and had hoped to utilise that sum to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for the second half of the season.
A new hurdle
As relayed by ARA in a recent update, however, that idea will no longer pan out successfully after the latest developments and opposition from other La Liga competitors.
Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Athletic Club, in particular, objected to La Liga that the €158 million Barcelona received should be spread over the length of the contract with Nike.
That implies that it will be spread until 2038, leaving a minuscule amount for each season.
Applying the new calculations will mean that Barcelona still will have insufficient space to register Olmo and Victor and La Liga have thus changed their stance.
The administration is thus exploring new avenues to turn the situation around and ensure the new signings’ availability past January and a possible sale of VIP seat rights in the new Spotify Camp Nou has been spoken of.
Meanwhile, as was confirmed by Barcelona president Joan Laporta himself, the club are turning to the court to obtain a precautionary measure to ensure Olmo and Victor’s registrations for the second half of the season.
