Barcelona plan to announce two more major contract renewals next week
The winter transfer window has ceased to be a period focused on signings for FC Barcelona and has transformed into a time for contract renewals.
The Catalans are in a favourable situation FFP-wise with the return to the 1:1 rule, but caution is still advised, and the club are refraining from taking risks in both sporting and financial matters.
While the arrival of a new player cannot be completely ruled out if the conditions are favourable, the focus is on securing the future of the stars already in the squad, especially those whose contracts are set to expire relatively soon. Deco is very clear on this.
Two more major renewals next week
In this context, Mundo Deportivo reports that during the last week of January, Barcelona intend to make two major announcements: the extensions of Pedri and Gavi, both of whom are under contract until 2026.
The golden midfield duo’s new deals will likely extend until 2030, possibly even 2031, similar to the contract signed by Ronald Araujo this week. The final details are being worked out, and the green light is nearly there.
Both Pedri (22) and Gavi (20) are considered key players in the club’s long-term plans by the sporting management. They are also highly regarded by Hansi Flick, with the duo being key to the team’s performance this season.
Barcelona are carefully considering the optimal timing for announcing both renewals separately on different days.
Given that they will host Atalanta on Wednesday at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuïc for the final group stage match of the Champions League, Tuesday is ruled out due to the busy schedule of European pre-match activities.
Meanwhile, Monday, a day after the Barcelona-Valencia match, seems too soon. With the team also playing at home against Alaves on Sunday, February 2nd, in La Liga, Thursday and Friday are being seen as the most suitable days to announce these deals.
