Along with Nico Williams, Dani Olmo has emerged as one of Barcelona’s top attacking targets as the club look to add more quality to the team this summer.

Olmo is admired within the Catalan club’s hierarchy and they intend to bring him in, even though it would require a significant exit.

The club are hopeful of pursuing both Nico and Olmo, with the latter currently available for a reasonable fee of just €60 million.

Time is ticking for Barcelona

However, the clock is ticking for Barcelona, who have around 24 hours to meet Olmo’s release clause, failing which they will have to negotiate with RB Leipzig.

This has been reported by MARCA, which suggests tomorrow, July 20, will be the final date in which Olmo’s release clause worth €60 million can be activated.

From Sunday onwards, Olmo’s release clause will cease to exist, meaning Barcelona or any other interested party will have to negotiate with RB Leipzig.

Why negotiations could be difficult

It’s unlikely Barcelona will be able to meet Olmo’s release clause anytime soon, meaning the club must negotiate with RB Leipzig if they are to sign the playmaker.

However, it must be noted that Barça may have a hard time dealing with the German giants, who will look to fully price Olmo’s performances in Euro 2024 and the overall valuation could easily breach the €60 million mark.

Moreover, Barcelona are not the only club interested in Dani Olmo this summer. This means more trouble for the Catalans, as other European giants can offer a significantly better deal to RB Leipzig.

Barcelona, for their part, are well aware that they cannot compete in a game of bids. The pursuit of Olmo, therefore, keeps getting trickier with each passing day.
