It is understandable that Barcelona would not be the only club to pursue the most prominent of summer targets. While the Catalan giants have a good eye for talent, some players are simply too prominent for anyone to miss. As such, timing and positioning is essential, especially for Barcelona right now.

Despite their financial woes and economic limitations, La Blaugrana have reportedly made great progress towards their essential target this summer. Nico Williams, the 22-year-old dynamic winger possessed by Athletic Club and one of the heroes for Spain in the European Championship, is the main priority for Barcelona right now.

Unfortunately for the Catalan giants, the player’s displays are now present for the entirety of Europe to gasp at. Due to that, French club Paris Saint-Germain have now also entered the picture in order to sign the Spanish winger as a direct successor to the departed Kylian Mbappe.

Moreover, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are now growing cautious of PSG’s interest. Despite being in a strong position to potentially land Nico Williams this summer, the Catalan giants know that the strong financial and sporting proposal that PSG could present may end up being problematic.

Even though Barça seem capable of securing the player’s transfer this summer, in terms of both the release clause and the salary, there is still some skepticism due to PSG’s involvement. However, that is exactly why Barcelona will be wanting to wrap up the operation sooner rather than later.

The €70 million-rated Spanish winger proved that he is extremely lethal as part of a duo with Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal, someone who maintains a close relationship with the Athletic Club star. Due to this factor, Barça became convinced that Williams is the right choice, and have since even sent personal guarantees to his entourage.

PSG, on the other hand, have many different fronts on which they continue to fight. Beyond just Nico Williams, they are also fishing for talents in the French market such as the likes of 19-year-old forward Desire Doue, and have multiple players on their agenda now that Mbappe is no longer their player.
