Barcelona do not have to pay deregistered star his entire salary if he terminates contract
The mess in Catalonia has turned real as La Liga and the RFEF have rejected Barcelona’s proposal to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for the second half of the season.
The message sent out by the board so far this week was to remain calm as the club had everything under control.
After receiving the required investment last night and returning to the 1:1 rule after seemingly forever, Barcelona were confident that they would get the said registrations across the line. However, things have not gone to plan.
A rule misinterpreted
While Olmo and Victor are still fixated on playing for Barcelona and giving the club time to sort out the mess, they could well end up staying unregistered and must thus keep their options.
Should such an occurrence arise, Olmo has the option to terminate his personal contract with Barcelona and leave as a free agent.
It had been reported that such a development was seen to be a massive blow to Barcelona’s finances as the club would have to pay Olmo his entire salary until the end of his contract.
Now, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo, there is no such condition the Blaugrana will be forced to oblige.
Should Olmo leave as a free agent, the Blaugrana are not entitled to pay the rest of his salary until the end of his contract in 2030 as there is no such clause involved.
RB Leipzig, however, will merit the entire transfer fee for Olmo and Barcelona will net an instant loss of €40 million which was to be amortised over five years.
As it stands, Joan Laporta and Co. are planning to take the legal route and push for Olmo’s incorporation but the chances of any turnaround are looking bleak with every passing day.
If nothing works out, Olmo and Victor and terminate their contracts 24 hours before the closing of the winter transfer market on February 2.
