According to a recent revelation made by Gabriel Sans in Mundo Deportivo, it has come to light that Barcelona are not currently considering signing Viktor Gyokeres.

Despite speculation linking the Sporting Lisbon forward to the club, sources within FC Barcelona have denied any interest in him at the moment.

Furthermore, While Paris Saint-Germain, under Luis Enrique, are reported to be monitoring the player, Barcelona’s attention appears to be elsewhere.

Problems within Barcelona

The club is still actively looking for a long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski. However, with the Poland international likely to extend his contract until 2026, any new striker brought in would likely have to settle for a backup role.

This presents a challenge for any player, as playing second fiddle to Lewandowski would not appeal to many top strikers, including Gyokeres, who is currently enjoying a leading role at Sporting Lisbon.

His impressive form there means that moving to Barcelona under these circumstances might not be the right step for his career.

Problems for Gyokeres as well

Furthermore, by 2026, Gyokeres would be 28 years old, and it is unlikely that even the forward would want to wait two years before becoming a regular.

A player in his prime would expect to play regularly, and being a backup to Lewandowski might not align with his aspirations. This is another factor that could explain Barcelona’s lack of interest in pursuing the player right now.

On the other hand, PSG’s situation is quite different. After losing Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid, the French club is still looking for a capable goal-scorer to fill the void left by the superstar.

Gyokeres, with his current form and potential, could be an ideal candidate to step into that role at PSG. Therefore, it seems that the French club may be a more suitable destination for the striker at this stage of his career.
