Barcelona to miss out on €85 million-rated target who will renew with current club
One of the names that has been frequently linked with FC Barcelona as a potential signing for the summer of 2025 is Napoli and Georgia forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The 23-year-old has been touted as one of the main targets for the Catalans as they look to bring in a top-quality left-winger before next season.
Barcelona saw the Napoli player, with a contract until 2027, as a feasible signing, especially considering that the winger’s contract renewal with Napoli appeared to be at a standstill. However, the situation now appears to have changed.
Kvaratskhelia set to sign new contract at Napoli
Indeed, according to Corriere dello Sport (h/t SPORT), the renewal agreement between Kvaratskhelia and Napoli now appears imminent.
The Partenopei sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, and the winger’s agent, Mamuka Jugeli, have given the green light for an extension of two more years until 2029. This agreement includes a salary adjustment as well as a variable release clause.
The Barcelona sporting management had very positive reports on Kvaratskhelia due to his age, potential, and relatively low salary.
The Georgian’s current salary at Napoli is around €1.5 million per year, a very modest figure for a player of his quality, which led to his camp demanding a new deal with a pay rise reflecting his status.
At one point, it seemed highly likely that Kvaratskhelia might leave Napoli in the summer. Contract offers from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain were much higher than what Napoli was prepared to offer but the Partenopei held firm.
Now, they are on the cusp of agreeing a new contract with their wing-wizard, with his new salary expected to reach €6 million per season, including both fixed base salary and bonuses, with gradual increases.
This development pretty much marks the end of Barcelona’s hopes to sign Kvaratskhelia in 2025, with the Catalans now forced to look at other options.
Rafael Leao and Nico Williams are also high on the wishlist while more recently young Eliesse Ben Seghir of AS Monaco has also emerged as an option.
