Barcelona midfield sensation names club legend as his reference – ‘Best player in history in the position’
Marc Casado has been one of the rising stars in La Liga this season. Initially brought in as a replacement for the injured Marc Bernal, the La Masia graduate has taken full advantage of his opportunities.
Despite minimal experience at the highest level, Casado has established himself as a key orchestrator in the middle of the park, building a solid partnership alongside Pedri.
Casado’s early season success has even led to a call-up from the Spanish national team, with the youngster set to be a part of La Roja in the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches.
Casado on faith put in by Flick
In a recent interaction, Casado revealed how he always wanted to become a key player at Barcelona.
“It was my dream to stay linked to Barça and they told me that Flick wanted to see me play and that he really liked what he saw from me and that he wanted me in the team,” he said (h/t RTVE).
As we enter the third international break of the season, Casado has featured in 15 competitive matches for Barcelona this term.
During this time, he has racked up five assists, which is quite impressive given the position he operates in.
Casado on emulating Busquets
Casado went on to heap praise on Sergio Busquets, labelling him as the source of his inspiration.
“Busquets is the player I pay the most attention to as I try to do things the way he does them. I think he is the best player in history in that position and I hope I have half the career he had,” the youngster said.
Thanks to his stellar performances this season, Casado has made a strong case for becoming Barcelona’s answer to Busquets, who left the club a year ago.
In fact, Casado has recently received the seal of approval from Busquets himself, as the veteran midfielder praised the youngster’s high level of performance this season.
