Reports in Spain suggest Barcelona may tempt ex-Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny out of retirement following Marc-André ter Stegen’s horrific injury.

The German keeper ruptured his right patellar tendon during Sunday’s 5-1 win over Villarreal and is expected to remain out of action for eight to nine months.

According to El Chiringuito and AS.com in Spain, ex-Juventus keeper Szczesny is among the possible replacements currently being considered by Barcelona, although the Polish shot-stopper announced his retirement less than a month ago.

Szczesny terminated his Juventus contract in August, weeks before announcing he’d hang his boots. He recently claimed that he would have retired in 2025, but the signing of Michele Di Gregorio pushed him out of Juventus one year before the expiration of his contract.

“I wanted to play for one more season because I felt I could still give so much, but after Juventus, I was not ready for other challenges,” the former goalkeeper explained.

Szczesny is not the only candidate for Barcelona, who are also being linked with Keylor Navas and Tomas Vaclik. Like Szczesny, both goalkeepers are still available, being without a club.

Szczesny, a three-time Serie A winner with Juventus, returned to Turin on Sunday to say goodbye to the Bianconeri fans before a league game against Napoli.
