For FC Barcelona, tough choices will have to be made in this summer transfer window. The Catalan club cannot have everything go their way, and they must be willing to take some risks. These risks could take shape in the form of Barcelona either selling some key players or possibly even neglecting some targets.

As it stands, the greatest desire for Joan Laporta remains the signing of Nico Williams. The 21-year-old Spanish winger from Athletic Club is stealing all the headlines at the ongoing European Championship alongside Lamine Yamal, who just so happens to be one of the finest youth products Barcelona has developed.

However, it is one thing to see the perspective of Joan Laporta, who believes that Nico Williams as a signing could be transformative in many ways for the clubs, and another to see it from a realistic standpoint. Realistically, according to MARCA, Barcelona may only be able to make one elite-level signing.

Since Barcelona desperately need a new pivot, and MARCA even states that the arrival of a new pivot is the most direst of needs for Barcelona right now, the club may have to give up on Nico Williams. In case it comes to having to choose between one or the other, Barça could end up prioritizing the arrival of a pivot.

Names like those of Joshua Kimmich, Amadou Onana, Mikel Merino, and others have recently been linked to Barcelona. However, almost all of them would come only after a significant economic investment, and that is exactly where Barça is limited.

However, that does not mean that Laporta will give up on that dream so easily. The Barcelona president believes that once the club returns to the 1:1 rule this summer and has the ability to sell some key players, it could generate the revenue needed by Barcelona to fund the arrival of a certain Athletic Club superstar.

Already a close friend of Lamine Yamal, Williams is also on great terms with the other Blaugrana players in the Spanish camp. Moreover, with recent revelations stating that he desires to join the Blaugrana club this summer, Laporta has even more support in regards to his quest to sign the 21-year-old winger.
