Barcelona may see their ‘Plan A’ for a new pivot suffer because of Bayern Munich

The urgent needs of FC Barcelona require the club to make some crucial signings. Ever since the departure of Sergio Busquets, Barça have lacked a proper pivot to help sort out their midfield problems. With time no longer on their side, Barcelona need to bring in a new pivot as soon as possible.

The number one priority for them, as per several reports, is Amadou Onana. A midfielder for Everton, his physical profile is one that really appeals to Deco and many other key figures in Barcelona. The 22-year-old Belgian midfielder is the name that Barça consider to be their plan A, but that operation has its own difficulties.

Unfortunately, the money that Everton would demand for his transfer is too much for Barcelona. The Catalan club has some well-documented financial issues still troubling them, and those are proving to be a major hurdle that stops them from pursuing the likes of Onana.

Moreover, there is even more trouble coming Barça’s way now. According to Mundo Deportivo, Bavarian giants Bayern Munich and English Premier League outfit Manchester United are both hoping to land the Barcelona target for themselves at this point, and they have the financial means to do so.

For Bayern, this is a new development given their failure to land one of Fulham’s stars. Joao Palhinha, a 28-year-old Portuguese midfielder, is the man that they wanted to take for themselves. However, his price tag of €60 million proved to be too expensive and Onana’s transfer would be slightly less expensive for them to complete.

With Everton and Amadou Onana both looking for a transfer, Bayern’s case is helped even more. Despite the wishes of FC Barcelona to land the Belgian midfielder, there are factors that may facilitate Onana’s move to the Bundesliga giants.

Already fluent enough in German due to his time in the Bundesliga with Hamburg, the player also has a national connection with new Bayern head coach, Vincent Kompany, and there is reportedly mutual respect between the both of them.
