As was reported last week, superagent Jorge Mendes had flown down to Barcelona to meet with the Blaugrana club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco.

There have been various speculations about the possible agenda of the meeting, more so with the January transfer window approaching.

And, now SPORT suggests that the meeting may have taken place to discuss the future of one Ansu Fati.

Barcelona will let Fati decide

Back from a season away on loan, Ansu has found minutes hard to come by under Hansi Flick at Barcelona. As such, the report states that Mendes wanted to learn about the club’s plans and their position on the 21-year-old La Masia forward.

Barcelona made it clear to Mendes that Ansu has had the same opportunities as his teammates to compete for minutes, but evidently does not figure in the coach’s plans very prominently.

As such, the club will not force any decisions and has left the player’s destiny in his own hands. If Fati and his camp they believe a loan move in January is the best solution, they will facilitate it as they have done in the past.

Ansu remains a valuable asset with a high-value contract until 2028, so the priority is for him to play somewhere and prove himself.

Sevilla interested

Furthermore, the report states that Sevilla, who were in Barcelona last week, have inquired about Ansu Fati again.

The Andalusian club’s manager, Garcia Pimienta, has maintained communication with the player and believes he could be the forward to revitalize their attack.

Pimienta would give Ansu a prominent role at Sevilla, but with relations between the clubs broken, the situation is complicated.

At the same time, though, Mendes is exploring other possibilities, but ultimately Ansu will decide his future based on the offers available.

Barcelona, for their part, are open to letting him leave if he feels that it is the best course of action.
